Germany announces an increase in the number of coronavirus-related diseases to 117!

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany has increased to 117 from 66, the Robert Koch Institute for Disease Control announced on Sunday.

A crisis committee of the German government has extended recommendations for cross-border travel and canceled major international events, and the Minister of Health has advised people with cold symptoms not to attend mass events.

More than half of the cases are in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany’s most populous state, where several schools and day care centers will be closed on Monday to try to prevent the spread of the virus after more staff members have were tested positive.

Interior Minister Horst Seehofer told Bild am Sonntag he hopes a coronavirus vaccine will be available by the end of the year.

Asked if Germany was prepared to isolate cities and regions to control the epidemic, Seehofer said, “This would be the last solution,” but did not specify what should happen for Germany to take such drastic measures.
